New
Hampshire's largest city, Manchester (pop. 107,006) was
a major textile-mill town in the 1800s. The mills closed in 1935, but the city is undergoing
revitalization, and the handsome red-brick buildings along
the river are once again humming with the sounds of production
by several smaller manufacturers. Design students will be
delighted with the bounty of culture, nature, history, and
entertainment in this area.
A
definite must-see is the Currier Gallery of Art, which displays
American and European paintings, decorative arts, photographs and sculpture,
as well as a collection of furniture made by hand in New Hampshire.
Art lovers and interior design students can feast on the incredible
eye candy Manchester so lovingly provides!
